Roe Highway Stages 3 to 6

Client: Leighton Contractors, John Holland / MacMahon
Project Period: 2003 - 2009

Project management incorporated:

• Final trimming including respreading of top soil, surface mulching and dozer tracking
• Native seed recovery and supply
• Tubestock supply and plant
• Direct seeding
• Environmental weed management
• Traffic management
• Monitoring, maintenance and reporting

These stages of development of the Roe Highway corridor involved clearing and mulching of vegetation. Mulch was then spread and tracked onto the many cut and fill batters. An ideal planting and seeding surface was prepared for the subsequent treatments. Remnant vegetation in the corridor needed to be managed and environmental weed control became a significant component of the works.

Outcomes

Successful outcomes were achieved on schedule and fulfilled the Main Roads WA completion requirements for a landscape that is self-sustaining and where weeds are controlled.

Retentions were recovered.

Relevant Components

Stages 5 and 6 of this project were undertaken as a lump sum contract. GHEMS was therefore fully committed to the planning, management and implementation of all soft surface treatments. Our client was very reliant on our revegetation knowledge and reporting process to fully comply with their commitment to Main Roads WA.
